Causes of Knee Injuries

Due to the high level of action that knees see physical activity, knee injuries are some of the most common sports injuries. In sports, knee injury can be caused by impact, hyperextension, improper form, falling, or even overuse and fatigue.

Common knee injuries from sports include:

  • Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears
  • Posterior cruciate ligament (PCL)  tears
  • Collateral ligament injuries
  • Meniscus tears
  • Dislocations and hyperextensions
  • Fractures
  • Bursitis
  • Tendonitis
  • Fractures

Since knee injuries are common and can take a long time to heal, it’s important to take precautions to prevent knee injury. Maintaining proper form when exercising or playing sports, not over exerting or overextending the joints, and taking enough time to rest the knees and fully recover from any minor injuries, can all contribute to avoiding major knee injuries.

Treatments for Knee Injuries

There are various treatments for knee injuries, depending on the specific injury you have sustained. In our practice, we tend to focus on treatments that promote and assist the body’s natural ability to heal itself, helping our patients avoid surgery or other high-risk treatments.

One of our most frequent treatments is stem cell therapy [LINK] which involves injections into the damaged tissues of the knee, speeding up the natural healing process and allowing for cells to regenerate. We also use treatments like massage therapy and joint manipulation for various injuries.
